A group of uncommon disorders which affects the brain, spinal cord & the nervous system is termed as Neurological rare diseases.
This type of rare disease can lead to impaired movement, cognition, sensation and overall functions of body.
These diseases often gives severe disability or complications which can be life-threatening.
Key Characteristics of Neurological Rare Diseases
It affects the nervous system and therefore impair functions of brain, control of muscles or communication in nerves.
These diseases are progressive in nature and hence worsens with time, leading to decline in cognition or loss of mobility.
Due to symptoms beings diagnosed similar to that of common neurological disorders, these diseases are difficult to get diagnosed as rare.
There is no cure to these disorders but still there's research going on in this area.

Treatment options for neurological disorders may include:
- Prescription medications
- Assistive devices for mobility and daily activities
- Physical or occupational therapy
- Speech therapy
- Surgical procedures
- Participation in clinical trials for experimental treatments
Although not every neurological disorder can be avoided, you may reduce your risk by staying healthy and being careful to prevent damage to your nervous system.
For eg., simple precautions, such as wearing a helmet when playing contact sports, can prevent injury that will lead to neurological disorders.
